Wrocław in one day
A plan in eight stops, from the Rynek to the opera, taking in the Old Town, the university, the Odra and Ostrów Tumski. Each stop links to its own page.
Morning
Rynek
The centre of the medieval town, laid out after 1241; the buildings around it were rebuilt after 1945.
Ratusz
The Old Town Hall on the Rynek: the seat of Wrocław's city council and courts, built in stages from the end of the 13th century into the 16th, now home to the Museum of Bourgeois Art.
Church of St Elizabeth
A Gothic church by the Rynek, built in the fourteenth century, burned in 1975 and 1976 and rededicated in 1997.
University of Wrocław
A Baroque main building on the bank of the Odra, begun in 1728 for a Jesuit university.
Afternoon
Most Tumski
The steel bridge of 1889 between Piasek island and Ostrów Tumski, once hung with couples' padlocks, which are now forbidden.
Cathedral
The Gothic Archcathedral of St John the Baptist on Ostrów Tumski, badly damaged in 1945 and rebuilt in the years after.
Panorama Racławicka
A painting 15 by 114 metres, made by Jan Styka and Wojciech Kossak for the centenary of the Kościuszko Uprising, shown in Lwów in 1894 and in Wrocław since 1985.

Opera Wrocławska
A theatre at Świdnicka 35, built as the city theatre between 1839 and 1841 and home to the Wrocław opera since 1945.
