Museum

The National Museum in Wrocław, housed in a building put up in 1883–1886 as the seat of the Province of Silesia's administration, on the south bank of the Oder.

What it is

The building stands on the south bank of the Oder, between Xawery Dunikowski Boulevard and plac Powstańców Warszawy, and was put up in 1883–1886 in the northern neo-Renaissance style. It was built for the administration of the Province of Silesia, then part of the German Empire. After the Second World War it was rebuilt and adapted for the museum in 1946–1947. The museum was set up in 1947 and opened to the public on 11 July 1948; it has been the National Museum since 1970.
