Photo spots

Where to stand for the picture: the exact spot, what is in the frame, which way you face, and so when the sun is on the subject rather than behind it.

Directions are measured on the map. Sun times are worked out from the sun's position over Wrocław and given in local clock time; they do not allow for the shadows of the buildings around a spot, or for cloud.

The view

The skyline, the square, a building whole.

  • Tumski Bridge, towards the cathedral

    Stand
In the middle of Tumski Bridge, looking along it towards Cathedral Island.
    In the frame
The bridge's green arch, Katedralna Street running on ahead, the Holy Cross church with its single green spire on the left, and the two towers of the cathedral on the right, about 270 metres away.
    Facing
East, a little south (about 100°).
    Light
The cathedral's west front faces west-south-west, so it is in sun from around midday until sunset, all year. In the morning you look towards the sun and the towers stand against it.

  • The Town Hall's east gable

    Stand
On the Market Square, east of the Town Hall and towards the square's south-east corner, about 60 metres from the gable.
    In the frame
The east gable with the clock on its facade, the Town Hall's tower behind it, and the pillory on the right.
    Facing
    North-west (about 310°).
    Light
The gable faces east-south-east, so it is in sun from sunrise until between half past one and a little after two in the afternoon, depending on the season, and in shade after that.

  • The square from St Elizabeth's tower

    Stand
On the terrace of St Elizabeth's tower, 75 metres up, on the side above the Market Square. Stairs only.
    In the frame
The square below, the Town Hall and its tower about 260 metres away, and further left the two towers of St Mary Magdalene.
    Facing
    South-east (about 145°).
    Light
For most of the day you look towards the sun. The house fronts turned towards you face north-west: they get sun only from the late afternoon in spring and autumn, for longer in summer, and not at all in midwinter.

Checked 9 October 2026 Tower hours change with the season and close in bad weather. Check before you go: St Elizabeth's.

  • The Town Hall from the Penitents' Bridge

    Stand
On the Penitents' Bridge between the towers of St Mary Magdalene, 45 metres up and 247 steps from the ground, at the west-facing rail.
    In the frame
The roofs of the Old Town, with the Town Hall's tower and east gable straight ahead, about 160 metres away.
    Facing
    West (about 270°).
    Light
The east gable faces you, so it is lit in the morning and in shade from the early afternoon. In the evening you look into the sunset: almost straight ahead in March and September, well to the right in midsummer, to the left in midwinter.

Checked 9 October 2026 Tower hours change with the season and close in bad weather. Check before you go: the Penitents' Bridge.

Looking west over the Old Town roofs at dusk from high up: the Town Hall's clock tower and its traceried gable rising above them, a lit street below, and an orange sky over the city beyond.

  • The Old Town from Sky Tower

    Stand
At the viewpoint on Sky Tower's 49th floor, about 200 metres up, on the side facing the Old Town.
    In the frame
The roofs and church towers of the Old Town, about two kilometres away.
    Facing
    North-north-east (about 30°).
    Light
From the middle of the morning to the evening the sun is behind you or to your left, on the sides of the buildings that face you. Early in the morning it is to your right.
    Ticket
53 zł, or 40 zł reduced; children under three go in free.

Checked 8 October 2026 Prices and opening hours change, and the terrace closes in bad weather. The current ones are on skytower.pl.

  • Centennial Hall across the fountain's pool

    Stand
At the east end of the Multimedia Fountain's pool, by the Pergola, with the water between you and the hall.
    In the frame
The hall's dome and its colonnaded front across the water, about 270 metres away, and the Iglica to the right.
    Facing
    South-west (about 220°).
    Light
The side of the hall facing you looks north-east. It has the sun only in the morning: until between half past nine and ten in spring and autumn, about eleven in midsummer, and hardly at all in December. From midday the sun is ahead of you, behind the hall.
The stepped round dome of Centennial Hall and its long colonnaded front seen across the still water of the fountain's pool, with the steel spire of the Iglica to the right, under a clear sky.

The selfie

You at arm's length, with the thing behind you.

  • Hansel and Gretel

    Stand
At the north-west corner of the Market Square, a few steps in front of the arch that joins the two houses, with your back to it.
    In the frame
You, the arch between Hansel and Gretel behind you, and to the left of it the tower of St Elizabeth's.
    Facing
You face south-south-east; the camera looks back at you towards the arch (about 340°).
    Light
The arch faces south-south-east, so it and your face are in sun from the morning until between four and five in the afternoon, depending on the season.
