Wrocław with children

A plan built around the dwarfs, the Zoo and Kolejkowo, in three short outings.

The dwarfs and the Rynek

The order is a plan, not a claim about distances. This page does not say how far apart these stops are.

  • Dwarfs: small figures of dwarfs, the krasnale, placed around Wrocław, each with its own name. The page carries no list or map.
  • Rynek: the centre of the medieval town, laid out after 1241, with the Ratusz in the middle. The houses around it were rebuilt after 1945.
  • Hala Targowa: a covered market hall at ulica Piaskowa 17, brick with two towers and a roof on reinforced-concrete arches.

Kolejkowo

  • Kolejkowo: a model-railway exhibition on the first floor of the Sky Tower building at ulica Powstańców Śląskich 95. Trains run on the layout.
  • Rynek again: the model includes the town hall on the Market Square, so you can set it beside the real square from the first outing.

The Zoo and the Centennial Hall surroundings

  • Wrocław Zoo: at ulica Wróblewskiego 1–5, close to the Centennial Hall. It first opened on 10 July 1865, and the Afrykarium, an oceanarium of African animals, opened inside it in 2014.
  • Centennial Hall: a reinforced-concrete hall designed by Max Berg, built in 1911–1913 and on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2006. Its page lists the Iglica, the Multimedia Fountain, the Japanese Garden and the Zoo as around the hall.
  • Iglica: a steel spire next to the Centennial Hall, put up in 1948.
  • Multimedia Fountain: a show of water, music and lighting at the Pergola next to the Centennial Hall.
  • Japanese Garden: in the southern part of Szczytnicki Park, near the Pergola by the Centennial Hall; laid out in 1913 and reopened in 1999.

Eating and moving between places

For food, see What to eat in Wrocław; it names venues for their history, not as recommendations. For trams, buses, bikes and taxis, see Getting around.

Opening times and tickets change; this page does not carry them. Check each place before you go.
