What it is
The Church of the Most Holy Name of Jesus, Kościół Uniwersytecki in Polish, was built by the Jesuits between 1689 and 1698 and consecrated on 30 July 1698. Its furnishing and decoration went on until 1734. It stands on the site of the old castle, and the parish says the sacristy is the only part of that castle to survive.
The Jesuits began their college beside it in 1728, and that building is now the main building of the University of Wrocław; the college had become a university in 1702. The vaults of the church carry illusionist frescoes by Johann Michael Rottmayr. It came through the Second World War with little damage.
